2nd Edition - The Difficult Life Circumstances (DLC) is a 38-item Yes/No assessment that evaluates the existence of stressors or chronic problems in families. The 2nd edition is organized into categories of stressors: financial concerns, housing/transportation issues, health concerns, personal experiences, child related stress and items related to possible challenges with a partner or spouse. The new DLC is organized so that both clinicians and researchers can easily use it to describe an individual or population. The revised tool is organized into six major domains of stressors which can be totaled and examined individually: Financial, Housing/Transportation, Health, Personal, Child, and Partner Issues.
